SIBU: The body of a man, who was reported missing since Nov 8, was found floating in the Bintangor River on Wednesday (Nov 10).

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said the victim, identified as Ing Chung Kiew, 60, was found by the crew of a fishing vessel around 8.35am.

They tied the body to a berthed fishing vessel while waiting for authorities to arrive.

Firefighters from the Bintangor Bomba station—all clad in personal protective equipment—retrieved the body and it was later taken to Sarikei Hospital by the police.

The victim’s identification card was found in his pockets, and Meradong and Sibu police confirmed that it was the missing person.

On Nov 7, the victim was said to have gone fishing at Sungai Lebaan with his friend at 10pm.

The next day, the victim’s wife received a call from the friend informing her that her husband was feared drowned while he was picking up items left behind across the river.

The wife and the friend went to the scene to look for the victim but to no avail. A police report was immediately lodged for further assistance.

The victim’s body being loaded onto a police truck before it was taken to Sarikei Hospital.
