KUCHING: Concrete drains and a footpath at Lorong 4, Jalan Lapangan Terbang (Borneo Garden) which have been in a state of disrepair will soon be sorted out.
This follows an application for funding under the state government’s rural transformation projects to carry out remedial work.
“The application has been approved by the government for implementation by Kuching South City Council (MBKS),” said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap in a statement.
He added the project would cost RM234,852.70 with the scope involving the construction of a 26 metre crossover box culvert, construction of 65 metre open drain and 103 metre concrete footpath.
“MBKS has informed me that the contractor to carry out the approved project will be appointed by “cabut undi” before the end of February,” said, adding that
residents of the area had alerted him to the problem.
“A section of the monsoon drains and footpath is not in a good condition and both the concrete drain and footpath are cracking and have to be repaired.”
Yap also appealed to the authorities concerned to conduct a study and formulate a comprehensive drainage system for Borneo Garden and its surrounding areas.
“It is hoped that with proper planning, the authorities can apply for more federal government funding.
“This is because drainage and irrigation is enumerated as a specific item in the concurrent list,” he said.
He will continue to apply for more funds to resolve flash flood problems in his constituency and hoped that Stampin MP, Chong Chieng Jen will also assist on the funding.
