Businessman loses RM67,000 to bogus project

MIRI: A local businessman here lost RM67,000 after being deceived by a fraudster over a non-existent supply of equipment to schools recently.

Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said a report over the incident was received on Tuesday.

He said the victim, in his 60’s, had lodged a report when he realised that the project was bogus.

Police investigation revealed that the victim had received a call from the suspect who introduced himself as an officer from the Education Department and offered the project to supply various equipment to schools.

The equipment includes tables, beds, chairs, and mattresses.

The suspect had in fact introduced the victim to the supplier of the equipment.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for fraud.
