KOTA SAMARAHAN: A Cabinet paper on the transformation of the Sarawak Native Court is expected to be presented this month.

Former Chief Registrar Datuk Michael Dawi Alli said the Cabinet paper is now in the final stages of preparation.

“Supposedly, this study was completed within nine months but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was extended to about two years.

“However, the study was completed in January this year and now it will be presented to the government.

“If everything goes well, we hope to hear good news this month,” he said when speaking at the Native Court Chief Registrar’s handover ceremony at its office, yesterday (April 4).

On a related matter, he said the Native Courts Ordinance Bill also needs to be presented in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

“The stakeholders out there are also with you to see this effort become a reality,” he added.

The ceremony also witnessed Michael handing over duties as Chief Registrar of Native Court to Jonathan.

Michael was the Chief Registrar from March 1, 2017 to April 1, 2023, a position he helmed for six years and two months.
