SIBU: It is necessary for the state government to re-implement inter-division movement or travel restrictions.

Residents here urged this to be done as a measure to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) central youth chief Michael Tiang said the local people are worried sick that Sibu might be affected by the outbreak in view of the hike in Covid-19 cases in the state.

“While moving around Sibu town here, I have received several requests from its dwellers to urge Sarawak government to re-impose inter-division movement restrictions like previously. This is to avoid the spread of the coronavirus from red or yellow zones to other zones which are enjoying the green status.

“Such concerns expressed by Sibu residents are understandable, although Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will only decide to enforce inter-division movement restrictions based on statistical information and analysis as far as I know,” he said today.

Meanwhile, Tiang also urged fellow Sarawakians to avoid making inter-division travel if it unless it is very necessary, especially travelling in or out of red zones. This is to reduce the spread of the virus to the lowest possibility.

“I also urge the general public to continue adhering to all standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by SDMC such as frequent hand wash, social distancing, wearing face mask, avoiding public gathering and travelling, as the battle against the virus requires everyone to play a part in making sure we can overcome it.

“I hope the pandemic situation in Kuching could be quickly improved as the authorities are putting great efforts in flattening the curve of the spike. At the same time, I also want to express my gratitude to all of our frontliners for their dedication and sacrifices,” Tiang said.
