MIRI: Miri police on late Wednesday evening arrested at 28 year-old man suspected for his involvement in car theft.
The suspect, a local, was apprehended by the police around 5.45 pm following a public tip-off.
Prior to his arrest, a team of Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led by Inspector Nasrul Jahat had spotted a car driven by the suspect somewhere in Piasau Utara.
CID immediately stopped the car and a body check was immediately conducted. The suspect later led the CID team to a workshop situated in Eastwood Industrial estate at Jalan Miri By Pass here, whereby they discovered a stolen four-wheel drive (4WD).
Police seized the car, with fake plate number.
The suspect is currently being detained under police custody to facilitate police investigation into the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.
According to sources, the 4WD was reported stolen recently.
