Chinese visitors call on mayor

KUCHING: Two delegations from Quanzhou city, Fujian and Zhenjiang city, Jiangsu paid a visit to the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor’s office for the first time here yesterday.

The visit aimed to improve their friendship and promote their Chinese culture that the locals may not have seen before.

MBKS mayor Datuk James Chan Khay Syn was present to welcome them at his office.

“I am impressed by the development in Quanzhou and the cleanliness in Zhenjiang,” Chan said.

Meanwhile, artistes who came from Quanzhou and Zhenjiang as part of their respective delegations have begun performing at the MBKS theatre from 7pm to 9.30pm until tomorrow evening.

Chan added: “I hope you all will be able to show us the performance from your respective cities and the different cultures that you have.

“I also hope that you will be taking a lot of photos and show to your people in your respective cities about the cultures of Kuching.”

Meanwhile, Zhenjiang’s deputy director of Education Bureau Feng Lijuan praised Kuching for its cleanliness and good organisation.
