KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has a very promising candidate Lo Khere Chiang, who can win the Stampin parliamentary seat from Democratic Action Party (DAP).

Political commentator Datuk Peter Minos predicted that DAP Stampin incumbent Chong Chieng Jen will not be lucky in the 15th general election (GE15).

Describing Lo as likeable and approachable, he said the Batu Kitang assemblyman gets on very well with the Bumiputera voters in Stampin.

“My Bidayuh friends said that Lo is the best. The Bumiputera votes matter a lot in a tight race against DAP and I believe that over 20 per cent of voters in the parliamentary constituency are Bumiputeras,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Minos pointed out that Sarawakians all over are not in favour of any Malaya-based party thus they will go for GPS with its Sarawak First music and no longer want a rocket ride.

He said time has changed similarly with the political mood.

“Voters throughout Sarawak are no longer keen on DAP, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and any party from Malaya because I believe the people have realised that Malayans have treated Sarawak shabbily and unfairly all these years.

“It is not about being anti-Malayan, but more of the way they have treated Sarawakians since 1963. Sarawakians are fed up and so Malaya-based parties are a put-off,” he said.

Minos stated that the Malayans are woefully divided politically and it is clear that Sarawakians do not want to be a part of this.

He said the GPS had selected its candidates very carefully and seriously with the aim of winning well.

“Some of the candidates from the opposition side are totally unknown and untested. No matter what the Malayans or their local cahoots or partners say or promise here in Sarawak, the voters must take them with a pinch of salt.

“I am sure that the GPS will win well in this GE15,” he added.
