Chung Hua wins choral speaking competition

MIRI: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Chung Hua Miri emerged champion in the Miri Division Secondary Schools Choral Speaking Competition here Monday (July 10).

Second place went to SMK Riam and SMK Pujut finished third in the competition which drew 200 participants from ten schools in the division.

The competition sponsored by Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad  (SOP) also saw SM Sains Miri picking up awards for Best Conductor and Best Script.

The Secondary Schools Choral Speaking Competition is an annual event that aims to foster teamwork, confidence and linguistic skills among secondary students in the division.

“We are honoured to have sponsored the competition,” said SOP General Manager (Plantation), Tho Kheng Chiang.  

“At SOP, we firmly believe in investing in the future of our community by empowering the youth. This competition not only encourages students to develop their speaking abilities but also promotes unity and cultural appreciation,” he said in a statement.

Earlier this month, SOP also sponsored a similar competition for primary schools which involved 180 participants from nine schools.
