KUCHING: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) should not divert from the main issue in the disqualification of DAP Pujut State Assemblyman, Dr Ting Tiong Choon.

“The issue here is the citizenship, it has nothing to do with Permanent Residence (PR).

“Perhaps DAP can propose to change the law so that Malaysia will become the first country to allow its assemblymen to have two citizenships,” Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian told reporters yesterday when attending the blood donation campaign organised by Batu Kawa Cycling Club at Emart Batu Kawa here.

On another matter, Sim pointed out the state needed 22,000 pints of blood every year to help the needy.

He said fresh blood was needed to help those suffering from blood diseases, operations and other health problems.

“The blood needs to be fresh as it will lose its ability to carry oxygen after a certain period of time and that is why we need the public to donate regularly, especially just before major holidays,” he explained.

Sim also thanked the Batu Kawa Cycling Club for organising the programme and the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) staff for working during the weekend.
