KUCHING: Efforts are continuing to help the woman whose son, the sole breadwinner in the family, died tragically in a road crash recently.

Welfare help aside, the authorities are now looking at helping Nurjannah Abdullah and also her daughter Siti Mariam Abdullah with the process of legalising their stay here.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Law and Parliament),Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Jaafar, has asked his political secretary to set up a meeting between Nurjannah and the Immigration Department at Simpang Tiga.

Wan Junaidi explained that Nurjannah could apply for a special visa as a foreigner before she could apply for a couple visa.

“After she applies for the special visa, she would need to wait for two years before she can get the couple visa and then apply for citizenship.

“In the case of Mariam, her citizenship will be handled by the State Social Welfare Department (JKM) as mentioned by Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
