KUCHING: Kampung Narub, a Melanau village at the very end of the Dalat constituency, will enjoy clean water supply via the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (Sawas) project.

Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the cost of the Sawas project for Kampung Narub/Kampung Klid as well as the implementation of Sawas at Rh Changai Ng Baoh in the Tellian constituency amounted to RM11,750,780.

Yesterday she paid a visit to Kampung Narub, which has 50 doors and 309 residents.

“The source of water is the river. After undergoing the process of filtration, the colour will be the same as drinking water. The flushing process is underway,” said Fatimah, who is also Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister.

“With that, the water cannot be used for drinking or cooking yet but can be used for bathing until next month, when the chlorination process is carried out,” she said today.

She added the project would also benefit residents of Kampung Klid as well as students, teachers and support staff of SK Klid and SJK San San.
