BAU: There will be ‘something new’ in store for the district here, said Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
He said the announcement will be made by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the Bau Bicentennial Celebration (BBC) which will be held at the Tasik Biru compound here on Dec 31.
“During the event, we will show a presentation on what we call ‘Greater Bau’.
“Definitely, the proposed Bau Gold Mine Museum is part of it and we will also have ‘something new’ for the whole state on what is coming in Bau.
“That will be for the chief minister to unveil … what we call ‘trademark’,” he told reporters after chairing the second coordination meeting on the BBC held at Bau District Council here today.
Henry also mentioned that the chief minister is expected to unveil the monument pole of the 2020 BBC.
“The moment he unveils it, that will be our permanent pole which marks the 200th anniversary of Bau.
“From there, he will go to the exhibition booths featuring the history of Bau as well as its transformation to a greater Bau,” he added.
He pointed out that the exhibition will showcase the co-existence of the three major races in Bau namely the Bidayuh, Chinese and Malay and their roles in developing the area for the past 200 years as well as moving forward to a greater Bau.
Persatuan Sejarah Hwa Gong (Gold Miners) Bau, ASCAR, Sehati Research Institute, Society of Wilderness, Dayak Bidayuh Nasional Association (DBNA) and various government agencies are involved in the event.
About 600 people are expected to attend the event. Whilst Henry welcomes the local public to join, he reminded them to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) including having their temperature taken, wearing of face masks and practising social distancing.
