KUCHING: The fifth edition of the increasingly popular “CMS Tribal Run” would be expanded to Miri this year.

The event, which normally attracted thousands of participants donning their traditional regalia, is expanded to Miri to allow more people to do their bit to raise money while at the same time having fun.

CMS group chief executive officer (corporate) Datuk Isaac Lugun said the run was initiated five years ago with the aim “to raise money for charities and the local communities in a fun and unique way”.

He said last year, a total of 3,288 people participated in the run and successfully raised a staggering RM136,000 which was later donated to 10 local charity bodies.

“The encouraging participation from the first time we opened this run to the public five years ago displays the community spirit that is prevalent amongst Sarawakians and we hope to be able to attract more runners this year,” he said.

He said CMS was very proud that the CMS Tribal Run is among the very few, if not the only run in Sarawak where 100 percent of the registration fees collected were donated to charity.

The first flag-off will take place at the Marina Park, Miri on July 7. The Miri event is a 5km fun run/walk and features many attractive prizes to be won by the top five men and women runners. The second flag-off will be at Wisma Mahmud, Kuching on August 4.

For the Kuching event, there will be three categories namely 3km and 5km fun run/walk as well as a 10km competitive race. The top ten men and women finishers for the 10km race in Kuching will each receive a prize.

Entry fee for the 3km, 5km fun run/walk is fixed at RM40 and RM45 respectively, while for the 10km competitive race is RM50.

Prizes will also be given to the top 10 most creatively-dressed men and women runners.
