KUCHING: The reception by members of the public to the state government’s Chinese New Year open house signified a bright future for Sarawak, said Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

The Minister for Food Industries, Commodities, and Regional Development said attendees of the state-level Chinese New Year open house expressed their enthusiasm for Sarawak’s future.

“Many pointed out that (this year) would be a good year for Sarawak. I would like to thank everyone who came here to celebrate Chinese New Year, there were many people here today.

“The attendance showed it would be a good year for Sarawak and we are looking forward to see a better future and all races celebrate the festival, one of them is Chinese New Year, and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Gawai and so on,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the state-level Chinese New Year (CNY) Open House at BCCK today.

Dr Rundi who said the presence of federal National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang at the event showed Sarawak is moving forward as a state and region, which has gained the attention of the federal government.

“We want to show an example (to others) and to share whatever festival and celebrate them together.

During the state-level Chinese New Year open house at BCCK today, over 5,000 people from all walks of life celebrated the first day of the Lunar New Year to usher in the Year of The Dragon.

Among those present at the state level CNY open house were Sarawak Yang di-pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Also present were the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.
