KUCHING: A Community Health Screening Project was held yesterday from 8 am to 4 pm at Depo Balai Ringin.

The project which was officiated at by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan was organised by District 308-A2, Region 1 Lions Clubs in collaboration with Balai Ringin sub-district office.

Lions Club in a statement yesterday said the health screening is open up to 118 kampungs consisting of 96 kampungs in Balai Ringin and 22 kampungs in Simunjan.

“All the services and activities conducted are free of charge for the villagers. Among the activities conducted were diabetes screening, pap smear, dental checking, hair cutting, blood donation service, distribution of reading glasses and more,” said the statement.

It also said that the project involved Lions Club from Region 1 which included Kuching as host, Serian, Kuching Metro, Kuching City, Kuching North, Kuching Stampin–Pending, Kuching Allamanda, Kuching Emerald, Kuching Ixora, Kuching Kota Samarahan, Kuching Sentosa, Kuching Centennial, Kuching Elite and Kuching Oriental.

Several non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government agencies and supermarkets were also involved to make sure the smooth run of the programme.

One of the activities held during the event was a demonstration on correct way of brushing teeth for the children.
