KUCHING: Six new categories have been introduced to the Malaysia Journalism Awards MPI-PETRONAS 2023, including Environmental Journalism, Best Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), Best Video Interview and Best Radio Interview.
Other categories include the Best Video Documentary, Best Live News Video, and Best Live News Radio, making up a total of 23 categories to be contested in the prestigious awards organised by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI).
“Participation in the awards is open to journalistic works in the form of news reports, articles, photos and other news content that have been published and broadcast throughout this year,” it said through a statement yesterday.
MPI expresses its highest gratitude to the president and chief executive officer of the PETRONAS Group, YM Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz, who had been committed to celebrating the diversity of the best journalistic works by continuously sponsoring the Malaysia Journalism Awards since 1994.
MPI’s chief executive officer, Datuk Mustapa Omar,announced that PETRONAS had agreed to renew its sponsorship contract for the Malaysia Journalism Awards for three years, starting from HKM 2023 to 2025, with a total of RM 450,000 per year compared to the previous RM 300,000.
He also informed that starting this year, MPI, with the agreement of media organixation representatives, had opened participation in the awards to registered freelance journalists with local media organisations who met the participation criteria.
