MIRI: The Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 (PPM) seized contraband cigarettes worth RM48,188 from two premises yesterday.

According to Miri OCPD ACP Lim Meng Seah, an operation codenamed ‘Ops Landai’ was held at a night market in Kuala Suai, Batu Niah.

In the first raid carried out around 12.15am, the team found a total of 52,000 contraband cigarettes worth RM36,400 at the premises.

They arrested a 49-year-old man, believed to be the premises caretaker, for failing to produce any legal document.

The second premises was raided at 1am and seized were 16,840 cigarettes worth RM11,788. A 37-year-old man was also arrested.

All confiscated items were handed over to Miri police for further investigation.

The cases are being investigated under the Customs Act 1967.
