Cop charged for trafficking 5.6kg of ganja

KUCHING: A policeman was charged in the Magistrates’ Court here for trafficking 5.6kg of cannabis early this month.

No confession was recorded from Aizat Danial Noor Azman, 30, after the charges were read before magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali on Tuesday (Jan 10).

Aizat was accused of possessing the drugs at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) international arrival hall at about 10.10pm on Jan 2.

He was charged under Section 39B(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a sentence of death by hanging or life imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane.

The court fixed Feb 8 for the re-mention of the case to wait for the chemical reports. The accused is being remanded at Puncak Borneo Prison until then.

According to the case brief, the accused had reportedly boarded a plane from Kuala Lumpur.

He was carrying a luggage bag and a backpack, which were detained by Customs after passing through the scanner.

The accused was found carrying 20 bottles of liquid – a mixture of juice and cannabis.

The prosecution of the case was handled by James Ho, the prosecuting officer from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, while the accused was not represented.
