Cops arrest foreigner for possessing of syabu

BINTULU: Narcotics police arrested a foreigner for allegedly possessing suspected syabu around Pasar Lama here recently.

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit said the 30-year-old suspect was detained on Sunday (Sept 3) on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse and distribution activities.

Police seized 14 straw tubes and four plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu, with an estimate weight of 21.89g.

“Investigations found that the drugs were intended for distribution in the market area, possibly catering to around 50 addicts,

“The suspect will be investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail sentence for a term of up to five years and up to three lashes of the cane, if convicted,” he said.

In addition, the suspect was tested positive for drugs and will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

Batholomew added that the suspect will also be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having a valid travel document.
