JULAU: Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the recent threat on Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng.

The threat allegedly stemmed from dissatisfaction over RM5 angpows offered to four men suspected to be gangsters.

The suspects who were picked up on Feb 12 in Pakan reportedly were unhappy with the RM5 angpow distributed by Sng.

In a statement released today, Julau police chief Andam Sulin revealed that the four suspects allegedly provoked Sng due to their dissatisfaction with the angpow.

Andam stated that the suspects were promptly apprehended and brought to the Julau police station within 24 hours of Sng lodging the report.

He said initial investigations revealed that the suspects took issue with the MP over the RM5 angpow.

“It is believed that one of the suspects added RM10 in the angpow and returned it to Sng to show his dissatisfaction,” he said.

The police are actively pursuing leads to determine the reasons for the incident.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
