Covid no hindrance to Bintulu Port’s CSR programmes

BINTULU: Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) continues to be committed to carrying out its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to assist various sectors and agencies in the face of the Covid-19 crisis.

They have contributed significantly to various government organisations, hospitals, and health centres, in addition to the education sector and the local community.

Recently, BPHB contributed necessities to organisations such as the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), and the local community especially families affected by the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

Among the items contributed were personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks, eye and face protectors, Tyvex suits, aprons, gloves, and hand sanitiser. Aside from PPE necessities, the company has also contributed food supplies to frontliners.

BPHB has also shown great concern for the health of the community and is committed in providing support to health centres throughout the state by contributing various types of important equipment for hospitals and health centres.

Aside from contributing equipment and medical facilities, BPHB has also presented assistances in the form of food, drinks, and other necessities for staff members at Bintulu Hospital on duty at the Covid-19 quarantine centres.

The company has donated 2,000 PPE sets comprising isolation gowns, eye and face protectors, gloves, and shoe covers to four main hospitals in Sarawak, namely Bintulu Hospital, Miri Hospital, Sibu Hospital and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for the use of frontliners on duty treating patients.

To cultivate the spirit of ‘Bintulu Port Cares’ among its staff members towards the wellbeing of the local community, BPHB has also launched ‘Bintulu Port Cares: Together We Help’ donation collections to obtain donations from company staff members.

These donations managed to ease the burden of 500 needy families from 10 villages in Bintulu. Among the food essentials donated were rice, cooking oil, noodles, biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar, salt, drinking water, and more.

The company’s emphatic efforts were also shown through various CSR programmes in the field of education.

Last year, BPHB contributed various necessities and funds to numerous schools in Sarawak. Among them were ‘Return to School’ programmes involving SK Kuala Annau, SK Kuala Serupai, and SK Kuala Tatau.

The items contributed which included school bags, shoes, stockings, writing tools, and others benefitted some 200 less fortunate students in their preparation to return to school.

The ‘Bintulu Port Cares’ programme was also carried out at SK Lubok Bemban Mukah, SK Kg Beraya Miri, SK Kem Batu 18, SK Sebauh, and Politeknik Mukah.

As a symbol of appreciation and support, the company has displayed special posters depicting frontliners at various locations around Bintulu.

“Every individual must play their respective roles to combat Covid-19, especially towards the community frontliners who need assistance,” said BPHB Group chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah.

“Since last year, the company has targeted its CSR objectives and focused assistance towards the Covid-19 crisis. This is one of the company’s initiatives in the effort to ensure the safety and health of company staff, customers, and port users,” he added.
