Special attention is being given to repairing the critical section of Jalan Bakun, spanning 7km, particularly at kilometre 45.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the estimated cost for the required repairs is RM15 million.

During a visit to the project site near the Bakun Junction yesterday (July 7), Nanta mentioned that his ministry is implementing routine maintenance for the federal road, with an annual allocation of RM4 million.

Additionally, a total of RM17.8 million has been allocated for both periodic and non-periodic maintenance works from 2018 to 2023.

Nanta highlighted the need for short-term solutions to address the issue of potholes. Between January and May 2023, a total of 762 pothole patching works have been carried out, and three Work Orders amounting to RM6 million have been issued to repair damaged road surfaces caused by structural weaknesses.

One of the contributing factors to the road damage is the frequent use of the route by overloaded vehicles, necessitating enforcement measures to tackle this issue.
