LUNDU: Parents have been urged to encourage their children to participate in sports.

Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said the role of parents and their continuous encouragement as well as support was important in ensuring the involvement of young children in sports.

“This could motivate students to progress further and explore their potential and as a result leading to greater success.

He said this during the closing ceremony of the Under 17 Closed Badminton Tournament at the Kampung Sileng Melayu Community Hall recently.

Azizul also said sports competitions are capable of uncovering new talents among young children.

Meanwhile, a total of 31 pairs of teams participated in the badminton tournament, with 14 pairs in the under 13 age category and 17 pairs in the under 17 age category.

In the under 17 category, the winners were Muhd Amir Asyraaf Sepawi and Zainul Muttaqin Taha, while the winners in the under 14 age category were Irfan Muqri Muhi and Max Law Shao Xian.

Earlier, the tournament was held for three days starting from February 20.
