Crypto mining activity crippled in Siburan

Authorities seize the mining rigs from a premises in Siburan being used to steal electricity to carry out cryptocurrency mining activities.

PADAWAN: Police together with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SESCO) have brought down a cryptocurrency mining activity at a shop lot in Mile 17, Siburan on Wednesday (June 21).

The raid, acting on intelligence, was conducted by an enforcement team involving personnel from Siburan police station and SESCO at around 10.50 am.

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the premises on the first floor, is believed to be used for cryptocurrency mining activity.

“Inspections found that there were wires connected directly from the main source without going through the proper electricity meter.

“The team managed to seize a total of 60 mining rigs, a Wi-Fi router, a laptop, a cooler fan and closed-circuit television (CCTV) system used to carry out the activity,” he said.

He added that they did not make any arrests as no one was in the premises during the raid.

The case has been handed over to SESCO for further action.
