MIRI: Recently 350 enthusiastic staff members of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) convened at the foyer of the Harry Perkins Lecture Theatre to joyously celebrate Australia Day and commemorate 69 years of enduring Australia-Malaysia diplomatic relations.

The momentous gathering, part of Curtin Malaysia’s 25th anniversary festivities, revived the cherished annual tradition of the ‘Australia Day Aussie Sausage Sizzle,’ which had been temporarily paused during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The event, a lunchtime barbecue extravaganza, witnessed a vibrant atmosphere as staff members eagerly gathered to indulge in quintessential Australian barbecue delights such as chicken and beef hot dogs, grilled vegetables, and refreshing salads.

“Notably, the senior management, faculty deans, managers, and other staff members adorned aprons, actively participating in the preparation, grilling, and serving of food, adding a delightful touch of camaraderie,” Curtin said in a statement.

Curtin highlighted the significance of this celebration within the university’s twenty-fifth year, acknowledging remarkable strides in academia, research, campus development, student experience, and strategic partnerships.

“The campus is not only thriving in its accomplishments but is also diligently working towards the recruitment of more pre-university, undergraduate, and postgraduate students in the ongoing year.

Reflecting on the essence of national days, whether it be Australia Day, Malaysia Day, or any other patriotic celebration, Curtin emphasised the importance of pride.

“These occasions are a testament to collective achievements, fostering a sense of pride and unity among the Curtin Malaysia community.

“As the institution looks ahead, the celebration becomes not just a reflection on the past but a vibrant affirmation of the promising future that lies ahead,” it added.
