Damaged longhouse survivors given aid

A total of 103 residents of Rumah Randi Enteba longhouse have been given assistance by Balingian assemblyman.

MUKAH: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Balingian came forward to lend a helping hand to the survivors whose homes were hit by strong winds recently.

Concerned with the disaster that blew away the roofs of a longhouse Rumah Randi Enteba at Batu 16, Jalan Selangau – Mukah on Aug 23, PBB Balingian visited and presented food donations to those affected.

A total of 18 food aid baskets were handed over to the 18 households of the longhouse by Balingian assemblyman’s special officer Che Ghazali Arbi.

Che Ghazali said that the donation was to ease the burden of the family affected by the disaster.

He said the party would do within its capability by providing basic necessities to the victims.

“It is hoped that the assistance could cover their (the victims’) daily expenses. Rumah Randi Enteba houses 18 family units comprising 103 people.

“However, only five units with 41 occupants were severely affected by the damages due to longhouse’s roofs being blown away by the strong winds.

“Assistance in the form of roofs and building materials for immediate repairs were also earlier contributed by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.

Residents of the longhouse led by longhouse chief Tuai Rumah Randi Enteba were very grateful for the donations.

“We appreciate very much these donations by all parties concerned who really care about our problems due to this unfortunate incident ,” said Tuai Rumah Randi.
