BETONG: The Dayak Think-Tank Association (DTTAS) will hold its inaugural series of education fairs in March as a platform to provide school leavers in rural areas with educational information, training, and help.

According to DTTAS publicity secretary Robbia Jarup, the first series of DTTAS Education Fair 2023 will be held on March 18 at the Panglima Rentap Hall here from 9 am to 6 pm in efforts to address the expectations of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) graduates.

“DTTAS Education Fair launches the first series of 2023 in Betong with the assistance of Layar Education Development Committee (LEDC), additionally with the cooperation of Yahos School of Skills and with the involvement of 17 educational, skills and career institutions and agencies.

“DTTAS Education Fair is a series of educational excursions conducted concurrently from one district to the next.

“We will continue our series of tours to other towns outside Sarawak after Betong, and our original planning chose Kapit as our next destination,” he stated in a statement yesterday.

He said students graduating from SPM and STPM who are not very outstanding and successful in academics will be able to choose other courses or fields, particularly skills, based on their qualifications and interests.

“DTTAS is aware of this and intends to provide essential assistance and guidance to the organisations involved.

“We want them to have accurate information and be able to assist them so that there is no erroneous choice of course since it can lead to problems for them in the future,” Robbia added.

Earlier, Robbia was at RTM Sri Aman for the recording of related programmes to ensure that the educational programme organised by DTTAS reaches the intended audience.

DTTAS urged graduates to attend the programme since the organising of such a programme serves as counsel for students to make sensible decisions and not squander time and money, resulting in them missing out on a better career after graduation.

“Through this initiative, we want the youth to be active using the platform offered by the government so that the aim and goal of DTTAS to generate competent youth can be realised at the maximum and encouraging level.

“DTTAS wants rural youth to have knowledge and skills in line with the 21st century job market, including cognitive competency encompassing in-depth understanding of the subject, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and the capacity to preserve personal attributes connected to a career,” he stated.

Thus, having all the necessary skills had three major ramifications: firstly, having high confidence and self-confidence to balance one’s potential; secondly, the alignment of skill requirements between employers and graduates; and thirdly, the possibility of improving higher education.

Consequently, graduates need to equip themselves with a variety of supplementary skills in order to compete in the highly competitive employment market.

They should also be aware that achieving academic success on its own does not guarantee them employment in a capacity commensurate with their credentials.
