Debt collector jailed for injuring man with knife

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a local man to 10 months in jail for intentionally injuring a 25-year-old man using a folding knife while collecting a debt.

The accused, Chin, 32, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

If convicted, an offender can be jailed for up to 10 years or fine or whipping or any two of the punishment.

According to the charge, he was accused with intentionally causing injury to the victim with a folding knife in a wooden house at Jalan Liu Shan Bang around 8.30 pm on July 21, 2022.

Based on the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, the victim was at home when the accused and another man attacked him using a sharp object, causing injuries to his ankle and right little finger.

The complainant’s family then took him to the hospital for further treatment and lodged a police report for further action.

Investigation found that the accused confessed to attacking the victim with a folding knife at the victim’s residence with the intention of collecting a debt.

Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while, the accused was not represented by a counsel.
