MOSCOW: Denmark will transfer the country’s entire ammunition stock to Ukraine, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said, adding that there is still ammunition stock in Europe that the bloc is not using at the moment and should deliver it to Kyiv, reported Sputnik.
“If you ask the Ukrainians, they are asking us for ammunition now, artillery now. From the Danish side, we decided to donate our entire artillery and I am sorry to say, friends, but there are still ammunition in stock in Europe.
“This is not only a question about production because we have weapons, we have ammunitions, we have air defence that we do not have to use ourselves at the moment that we should deliver to Ukraine,” Frederiksen said on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
On Thursday, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance needed to boost its production of ammunition, as the conflict in Ukraine “demanded” it.
Western countries have been providing military and financial aid to Kyiv since the start of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine in February 2022. The Kremlin has consistently warned against continued arms deliveries to Kyiv, saying it would lead to further escalation of the conflict.
In April 2022, Russia sent a diplomatic note to all NATO countries on the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russian strikes. – BERNAMA-SPUTNIK
