KUCHING: Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr. Juanda Jaya regards Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s passing as the loss of the ‘firus’ (last diamond) of Sarawak Darul Hana (old Sarawak).

“The passing of the last Darul Hana’s ‘diamond’ (Perginya firus terakhir Darul Hana) today is the saddest day for Sarawak. Taib is Sarawak, and Sarawak is Taib.

“The diamond that has illuminated the Land of the Hornbill since its independence is now going back to the almighty God,” he said in his Facebook post this morning.

Juanda remarked that Taib’s political career and dedication to his motherland began with the birth of Sarawak in 1963.

“His service as a servant of the people of Sarawak in various capacities spans over 60 years (1963-2024) without interruption.

“Almost his entire life (1936-2024) has been devoted to Sarawak, which is now increasingly progressive and prosperous. History will remember him as the true father of Sarawak,” he said.
