KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak is committed to empowering new economic sectors driven by digital technology, data and innovation.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), the main focus is to reorganise and diversify the economy into high-value downstream industries driven by data and innovation.
He said Sarawak emphasizes six economic sectors, namely manufacturing, commercial agriculture, tourism, forestry, mining and services.
“We aspire to become a thriving society where everyone enjoys economic prosperity, social inclusion and sustainable development by 2030,” the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) quoted him as saying at the Global Muslim Business Awards and Gala Dinner 2022 held here last Wednesday (Oct 19).
Awang Tengah, who is also the Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, said PCDS 2030 is a long-term plan for Sarawak to take advantage of megatrends around the world.
“We are now focused on opening up borders to help and modernise traditional industries to be more sustainable and at the same time, change the economic landscape with new growth areas.
“We will also promote high-value downstream activities for both resource-based and non-resource-based industries to attract global partnerships in developing technology-driven commercial activities for the international market as well as branding Sarawak as a premier destination for eco-tourism and business events,” he said.
At the event, he also disclosed that Sarawak will host the 2nd Global Muslim Business Forum in July 2023.
He said the forum will be able to showcase Sarawak’s attractiveness in trade, business and investment opportunities as well as an integrated socio-economic development plan.
