KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said South Korea is definitely one of those countries that the state is looking to have directly flight. Having direct flights, he said, has to be done one at a time. “We will be having direct flight from China, in December there will be a Shenzhen-Kuching flight.

“We are still looking into other big cities whether it is in China or Thailand, and we are also negotiating with Thai Air now. “Definitely, Korea will be in our focus also, and it is in the pipeline.

But then, it will have to come one at a time,” he told a press conference yesterday. Karim reasoned that if there are too many flights managed at the same time, the state may not be prepared , and the tourists that come will go out with bad memorises. “That is the things which I will never want to see. I would want the tour agents and the hotels here to be well prepared for the influx of tourists. So we have to do it one at a time,” he added.

“But definitely, Korea is also in the pipeline. And then for Media information, our connection with Korea, actually, this is not the first time; before this there was a TV Reality show that brought artistes to play golf in KGS and it was shown on Korean TV with the artistes playing their own games in KGS.

“Things like that is very good because in a way it is promoting the state and the scenery and what we have down here and it will create a little of curiosity and people will ask, eh where is this place, it looks very beautiful, we should try to go there,” he said. And so if there is a directly flight and further promotions after that by travel agencies and all that, well they might want to come, Karim said.
