KUCHING: Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman is looking forward to featuring disabled (OKU)-friendly facilities at all surau and mosques under his constituency.

Citing the newly completed Surau Darul Rahmah in Kampung Gita Tengah as an example, he said the refurbishment of facilities at Muslim places of worship would make them more accessible and convenient for its worshippers, especially for the disabled and senior citizens.

“I am proud to see the new Surau Darul Rahmah building is occupied with disabled friendly infrastructure. I hope more surau and mosques will be built with such features to accommodate these groups,” he said speaking to reporters after officiating at the opening ceremony of the completed Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project under Tupong constituency at the new building of the Surau Darul Rahmah here in Kampung Gita Tengah today.

With the availability of the facility, he added the new surau could accommodate about 198 worshippers at one time.

“Equipping the OKU friendly facilities at this new surau is important. With a total cost of RM700,000, the surau now can be able to serve these groups (of OKU and senior citizens),” he added.
