THE final dossier on the Niah National Park as UNESO’s World Heritage Site was submitted to the World Heritage Centre in Paris on Jan 30.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the document has been approved for evaluation by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) from June to August of this year.

“Various programmes have been implemented and among them are the International Conference on Niah National Park for World Heritage Site Nomination back in September 2022.

“There are also publicity programmes such as online campaigns, documentary videos and community involvement programme which will continue to be held to increase awareness and strengthen the nomination of Niah National Park as the second World Heritage Site in the state,” he said.

He was giving his ministerial winding-up speech in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.

In the meantime, a total of 16,800 units of submerged reef balls were docked from Tanjung Datu sea waters up to Lawas under the People’s Project Scheme, which was implemented in September 2022.
