MIRI: Startled by her dog’s persistent barking, a woman was shocked to find a cobra nestled beneath a shoe rack at her house in Grand Park here yesterday.

Without wasting time, she quickly alerted the Civil Defence Force (APM) and a three-member team was despatched to the scene around 7.45 pm.

On arrival, the 46-year-old complainant showed the team the spot where the snake was resting.

The stealthy reptile was still found taking refuge beneath the very shoe rack that had prompted the initial commotion.

It did not take long for the team to capture the one-meter-long cobra – as big as a broomstick – with snake catching equipment.

To ensure the safety of both residents and the reptile itself, the team released the cobra back into its natural habitat, away from the residential area.

The operation ended at 8.07 pm.
