KUCHING: A total of 56 pints of blood were collected from generous blood donors during a Blood Donation Drive event held at CityOne Megamall here on Saturday.

According to Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Sarawak (PPIS) president Manjeet Kaur Sidhu, the event was a collaboration project between PPIS with Sarawak General Hopsital (SGH) Blood Bank to secure enough blood for the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) festive season.

“According to SGH Blood Bank they need a daily minimum of 70 bags of blood.

“Therefore, I would like to thank CityONE Megamall for providing the space to carry out this nobel deed and Lepau for sponsoring lunch for the volunteers and hospital staff on duty,” she said in a press release on Sunday.

PPIS under the leadership of Manjeet has been organising the Blood Donation Campaign with SGH Blood Bank for more than fifteen times.

Volunteers assisting in the event were 20 Leos from St. Joseph’s Private School together with their two faculty advisors and Leo advisor.

“It was the club’s fifth time working with PPIS for the blood donation campaign. They helped with the registration besides other tasks to ensure the smooth running of the event and even managed to convince the public to come and donate their blood.

“Please give your full support as you always have. We will inform the public on the place and time through Facebook, media and reachout programmes,” she said.

During the event, the Unit Perolehan Organ Hospital team was also present to spread awareness on Organ Pledge.
