PORT DICKSON: Besides giving exposure on the use of computers in the learning process, students should also be given emphasis on aspects regarding thinking skills.

Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said although the country was moving towards the digital or computer economy, children must still be trained to think and have ethical and moral considerations.

He said the students previously used writing boards, later books and now the computer had become a basic necessity (in school).

“But, I wish to give a reminder that students cannot escape from mastering basic knowledge such as the ability to think,” he said in his speech when launching the Port Dickson Interactive Centre and the handing over of computers to schools in Port Dickson district, yesterday.

Also present was chairman of the Action Committee on Solidarity, Information and National Integration Choo Ken Hwa.

Anwar said parents too must control the use of technology especially computers and handphones among their school-going children.

“The compuiter is important but parents must also control…then at school, special education must also emphasise on the ability to think,” he added. – Bernama
