KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof envisions a strategic commitment to sustainable development, resolving Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) issues, and fostering unity for the development and prosperity of Sarawak and the nation in the upcoming year of 2024.

Aligned with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership, he affirmed that Sarawak aims to be a leading producer of green hydrogen in the region.

He noted that the recent launch of two green hydrogen plants signifies substantial progress, with plans for further developments.

As such, he said the Sarawak hydrogen project, currently in the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) stage, is poised to contribute significantly to the nation’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

“This meticulous approach underscores Sarawak’s unwavering dedication to paving a sustainable path for its future in the green economy,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

The Petra Jaya MP, entrusted with overseeing Sabah and Sarawak, affirmed prioritising the resolution of issues surrounding the MA63.

Drawing inspiration from the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s dedication to safeguarding Sarawak’s rights, Fadillah emphasised ongoing discussions on crucial matters.

“Several crucial matters are currently the focus of active discussions, including the augmentation of Dewan Rakyat members from Sabah and Sarawak, the proposed amendment of Item 25A (Tourism), and suggested amendments to Article 95B regarding modifications for the states of Sabah and Sarawak.

“In relation to the division of legislation, key issues involve the empowerment of health autonomy, educational autonomy, Borneonisation of the Federal Public Service in Sabah and Sarawak, authorities regarding the appointment of Judicial Commissioners, and the development of the Sabah-Sarawak-Kalimantan border area.

“Additionally, attention is directed towards federal financial obligations under List III, Joint List, Ninth Schedule of the Federal Constitution, and the augmentation of Sabah Sarawak Public Service Posts under Article 112 of the Federal Constitution.”

This revision, he stressed, aims to maintain clarity and conciseness while emphasizing the importance of resolving the outstanding issues and aligning with the spirit of upholding Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the MA63.

On the same note, Fadillah, the senior vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), said that unity remains the bedrock of racial harmony, citizen welfare, and national prosperity.

Advocating for an unwavering commitment to unity, he urged all parties to rise above political maneuvering for the collective development and welfare of the people.

Fadillah stressed that uninterrupted development translates to tangible benefits for the populace, while political discord discourages potential investors.

“Together, through a unified approach, we can fortify ourselves to confront any forthcoming challenges.

“Therefore, it is crucial for all parties to rise above political maneuvering and direct our efforts towards the development and welfare of our people.

“Undeniably, uninterrupted development directly translates to tangible benefits for our populace, while continued political discord discourages potential investors.

“Let’s not forget that political stability acts as the linchpin for economic recovery and sustained national progress.”

In line with the directives of the Premier, he emphasised the primary goal of establishing a steadfast and robust government, which, in turn, will pave the way for revitalising Malaysia’s economy.
