Dr Sim flexes muscles, transfers nine out

SIBU: Changes are afoot in local government with Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian putting nine local authority secretaries on transfer.

No reason was disclosed for their transfers but Dr Sim gave notice that he would be taking action against errant staff.

“I will not compromise in the fight against corruption in local authorities and have launched the Organisational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) 2022–2026 in Kuching to improve corruption risk management in local authorities,” he said.

Dr Sim who is Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister said similar action in the next round involving several other local authorities.

It will involve civil servants who hold the position of secretaries, section heads and professionals, he said.

Speaking at the Sibu Rural District Council (MDLBS) 70th Anniversary Dinner here on Saturday night (Jan 8), he said nine of the 24 local authority secretaries in Sarawak were relocated last Friday.

“Yesterday (Jan 7), three days after I was sworn in as a Cabinet member, I transferred nine of the 24 local authority council secretaries.

“It is to improve services and part of risk management,” he explained.

Dr Sim stressed that he would continue to monitor staff closely in keeping to his commitment to the people.
