SIBU: A woman faced some anxious moments when her car suddenly caught fire last Sunday.

The State Fire and Rescue Station Department (Bomba) operation centre said it received a distress call at 9.52am on Sunday.

Firefighter PBK II Shairulnizam Wailie said the fire happened about five minutes after the woman drove from a restaurant at Jalan Ling Kai Chen here to the town centre.

“Based on initial investigations, the 35-year-old driver said she was on her way to the town from a restaurant when smoke suddenly came out of the car.

When she saw the smoke the woman immediately stopped the vehicle and immediately ran out,” Shairulnizam said.

No injuries or casualties were caused by the incident which happened about four kilometres from the Sungai Merah fire station.

“Immediately after the distress call was received, six firefighters were deployed to the scene. When they arrived, the car was already 90 per cent burnt.

“It took the firefighters about seven minutes to extinguish the fire. The operation ended at 10.23am,” Shairulnizam said.

The actual cause of the fire and loss incurred are still under investigation.
