PADAWAN: A teenage boy found floating in Sungai Cina, Matang on Wednesday afternoon (Dec 6), was confirmed to have died from drowning.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said that the 13-year-old was pronounced dead by Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the cause of death was drowning.

“The case is being investigated as sudden death.

“In view of this, the public is urged to always be vigilant and prioritise personal safety and that of other family members during a leisure activity,” he said in a statement today (Dec 7).

The boy’s discovery happened when a group of men enjoying a picnic along the riverbank, stumbled upon the lifeless body around noon on Wednesday.

Without hesitation, they jumped into the waters to rescue the boy before notifying the authorities.

Moments later, paramedics arrived at the scene and performed CPR before taking him to SGH.
