Drug offences land teen at Henry Gurney School

KUCHING: A teenager was ordered to Henry Gurney School for three years by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday after he pleaded guilty to being involved in drug abuse activities in February.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar made the ruling on the 15-year-old offender after hearing a moral report from the Social Welfare Department today.

He was charged with taking methamphetamine and amphetamine after he was tested positive for drugs at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division office, Kuching district police at about 12.25 pm, on February 2.

Therefore, he was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same act.

If convicted, he can be fined a maximum of RM5,000 or imprisoned for up to two years and immediately required to undergo supervision by an officer for a period of not less than two years and not more than three years.

Based on the facts of the case, during the incident, the initial screening of the teenager’s urine was found to be positive for drugs while being detained.

The Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital ran the test on the urine and the report confirmed that the offender tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

The prosecution of the case was handled by prosecuting officer Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
