DUN to debate four motions tomorrow

KUCHING: Four motions will be debated during the first meeting of the 18th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting tomorrow.  DUN Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said the first motion pertains to a report by a Committee of Special Privilege on a case involving Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei in regards to his statement challenging Asfia to step down as the Speaker during the last sitting.

The second motion to be presented by the Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, has to do with a recent Bill to amend Article 1 (2) of the Federal Constitution.

Asfia said of the other two motions, one is under Standing Order 15 regarding the relocation of the Registry of the High Courts of Sabah and Sarawak from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu. It will be introduced by Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How.

The fourth motion which is under Standing Order 23 is about the amendment of the Federal Constitution. This will be tabled by Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon.

Asfia announced these motions during a press conference after attending Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) pre-council meeting in preparation for tomorrow’s DUN sitting.

“Tomorrow, Second Finance Minister Datuk Sri Wong Soon Koh will present the first reading of the Supplementary Supply Bill 2018 (2019). The second and third reading will be on May 3,” he said.

He added that for the meeting, a total of 379 questions were received by 49 members. 

“An election of senators will also be held tomorrow. All letters have been given to members concerned including the opposition to elect their candidateS,” he said.

The ministerial winding-up be done on the last three days from May 7 to 9.

The Head of State Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud will officiate at the opening ceremony of the sitting at 9.30am. This will be followed by his opening address.
