KUCHING: Two men were arrested on suspicion of beating a teenage boy to death in an incident at Jalan Tun Jugah, here.

The suspects, aged 43 and 50, were arrested by a police team from Kuching district police headquarters.

Acting district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the incident happened at about 1am resulting in the 18-year-old victim being subsequently admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.

Police have classified it as a case of murder when the victim was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the hospital, he said.

“Both suspects were brought before the Magistrate Court for a remand application and it was approved for seven days until August 5 to assist the investigation.

“The case is believed to stem from the victim’s love relationship,” he said in a statement today. He added the autopsy will be done today.

Merbin noted that the case was investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which provides for the death penalty if convicted.
