BINTULU: Two local men were arrested on suspicion of substance abuse yesterday by the Narcotics police.

According to Bintulu police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit in a statement, the suspects, aged 26 and 37, were arrested at Jalan Sebiew and Jalan Tun Hussein Onn.

“One of them was found to be in possession of 0.5g of drugs believed to be syabu.

“He will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term up to five years and a fine up to RM100,000, upon conviction,” he said.

Both suspects were also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and they will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He added that these arrests were part of the police’s efforts to combat substance abuse as well as prevent crime in Bintulu.

In the meantime, members of the public are urged to continue channelling information related to drug activities to Bintulu police at 086-318304.
