SIBU: Police detained two men for stealing solar street lamps worth RM11,300 last Monday.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that the arrest of the two suspects, aged 32 and 35, was made following a series of reports made by members of the public.

“The police had on June 30 received a report from the public informing that there has been theft of solar lights installed along the road from Sungai Pak to Sungai Lukut,” he said at a press conference today.

He said that another four reports were received by the police on the same matter on July 1.

“As a result of the investigation and quick action by the police, two men were successfully detained at about 2.20 am on July 24 as the suspects were then driving a car in a suspicious manner.

“We managed to seize three sets of solar street lamps from the suspects. Both admitted to the theft which they claimed was for personal use in their house garden,” he added.
