SAMARAHAN: The Samarahan Division has the potential to be a dynamic hub for research centres that will benefit society as a whole.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has agreed to the construction of a cancer centre here, pointing out that it would further strengthen the health cluster in Samarahan.

“Aside from that, in Samarahan, we have a research centre for tropical diseases where the state government established a research institute for it.

“With its availability, it will not only serve the people of Sarawak but also Malaysians from Sabah and probably to our neighbour, Indonesia as well.

“Looking at our development, Samarahan has the potential to be a hub to all these research centres,” he said.

He was speaking at the Madani Sarawak 2024 breaking of fast ceremony at Al-Muttaqin Mosque, Kota Samarahan which was attended by Anwar today.

Abang Johari revealed that they also discussed the direction of the state government to develop green energy using its resources along with the digitalisation approach that Sarawak has been embarking on.

“InsyaAllah we will continue our efforts towards green energy including hydrogen. We will focus our development towards that direction.

“That is why it is important for Samarahan to have a meritorious workforce to fuel the ongoing development that we have in Sarawak,” he said.
