MUKAH: Twenty longhouses in the Baoh area near here received early Christmas gifts totalling RM96,000 in the form of minor rural projects (MRP) cheques.

Of the total, RM41,000 was granted to nine longhouses in Nanga Baoh, and RM55,000 to 11 longhouses in Ulu Baoh.

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo handed over the cheques to the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) of the longhouses during a Pre-Christmas celebration at Rumah Simu, Ulu Baoh on Sunday (Dec 20).

He said the seven-kilometre Jalan Ulu Baoh to Nanga Baoh costing RM14 million had been tendered out.

Yussibnosh, former Balingian assemblyman, hoped that the completion of the road would be followed suit by the provision of electricity and water supply.

“We also try to apply for telecommunications coverage   in the Baoh area because Internet has become a necessity in our daily live, particularly for the children’s online education,” he said when officiating at the event.

He also said that Tellian state constituency recently introduced a new development initiative, MukahXtra, which comprised seven components, namely XtraEconomy, XtraCulture, XtraTourism, XtraCreative, XtraYouth, XtraLocal and XtraSafe.
