Early morning blaze leaves eight homeless


KUCHING: Eight people from Kampung Semarang here were left homeless in a fire in the wee hours today.

The fire completely razed a house, a second was partially damaged while the third was saved by firefighters during the 2am incident.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said an emergency call was received at 2am and 34 firefighters from the Petra Jaya, Padungan and Tabuan Jaya stations rushed to the scene.

Bomba added that no casualties were reported as all eight occupants of the two houses managed to save themselves.

The fire was brought under control at 2.35am and the operation ended at 4am.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
